My History and My Why:
My name is Marcus Kowal and I’ve been doing martial arts for almost 30 years. I had my first fight when I was 18 and I turned pro when I was 23 years old. I’m originally from Sweden but I’ve lived all over the world, from England, Germany and France, to Mexico and Germany. Along the way, I’ve been fortunate enough to get to train with some of the best coaches in the world. However, since I was many times “the new kid,” in school or “a foreigner,” I often got tested and since I’m not a big guy and don’t look like a fighter per se, I got into my fair share of altercations and learned what worked and what did not.
From a young age, I very much enjoyed martial arts and combat sports. I played a lot of sports growing up but fighting was always something that intrigued me. Over the years, my passion to teach the skills I’ve learned began to develop as I saw how just how the knowledge I had learned from thousands of hours of training, could really impact someone else’s life in a positive manner.
My fire to help others grew with each individual I impacted. I loved seeing the young kids who were bullied stand up for themselves because they gained confidence and knowledge through our training; law enforcement officers and soldiers who were able to go home to their families; women who were able to find their confidence again after getting out of a toxic relationship.
I had found my life’s purpose.
I decided to dedicate my life to teaching martial arts and self defense and I opened my first gym in 2013 and we now have 3 gyms in Los Angeles. However, I’ve always wanted to be able to reach more people, around the world, even if they couldn’t physically walk into one of our gyms because the power of martial arts and self-defense is extraordinary.
With Your Krav Maga, that is now actualized.
